Great Cozy Mystery To Listen To Or Read

I had the privilege to get a copy of the Audio Book to listen to and review and wanted to add this to my review of the book. The flow and how you feel like you are right there with Flora and Darcy telling you their story. I get so caught up in it I feel like I am experiencing it with them. The actor reading has captured the essence of Darcy and Flora and her inflection and her emotion as she reads draws you in. Whether you are listening or reading this book for yourself you will enjoy it. Don't miss out make sure you get this book and series.

My review of the book.

The Cemetery Club (Darcy and Flora Cozy Mystery) by Blanche Day Manos & Barbara Burgess is a great cozy mystery that mixes faith, mystery and family along with suspense that leaves you on the edge of your seat and wanting more.

Darcy has come home to her mother’s after the death of her husband. When her mother Flora along with Darcy find the body of Flora’s good friend Ben at the cemetery then things get really interesting  and dangerous for Darcy and Flora. Can they find out why and who killed Ben before more people are killed or the killer succeeds in killing them?

Darcy and Flora remind me of my daughter and me. We have a special bond and it seems we can always find ways to make things interesting. I think I could feel right at home sitting in their kitchen sharing stories while drinking coffee. That is part of the charm of this book, being able to feel like you know them and could be right in the middle of this mystery helping them solve it as well as getting in trouble right along with them. I like that the book keeps you guessing. It is one of those books that you don’t want to put down but then when you get to the end you wish there was more. It has just the right mix of suspense, faith and family. I give this book 5 stars and would highly recommend it to others.

I think one of my favorite quotes from the book is, pg. 38 “Trust God, Darcy. He knows the end from the beginning.” This is a very comforting thought. And then another favorite was “To her way of thinking, in all times of stress, coffee helped.” Pg. 48. I so agree!

I loved this book. I think that anyone who likes a good mystery, with twists and turns will want to read this book. I can’t wait to read the other two in the series.

Southern Charm mixed with ghost and murder equals a good mystery

A Ghostly Undertaking by Tonya Kappes is a 5 Star cozy mystery with a ghostly twist.

Emma Lee with her sister runs the family Funeral Home but she didn't expect to be able to see ghosts. When Ruthie dies and Emma finds herself face to face with Ruthie's ghost at her veiwing things get interesting. Ruthie tells Emma she has to help her find out who killed her that her death was not an accident. After the initial shock of being able to see and talk to a ghost Emma gets down to snooping to find out who did Ruthie in and has to find out fast before her Granny is blamed. Will she find the answers before Granny is arrested and what is Granny hiding? Will she solve the mystery before anyone else is hurt? Can she help Ruthie so she can cross over and all before the whole town thinks  she is crazy?

I loved this book. I love the small southern town dynamics and charm. Emma Lee is just spunky enough to be able to handle the town gossip, yet you get drawn in to feeling how shy she is when the good looking Sheriff is around. This book has all the right elements a good mystery with a few surprises, good characters that you can relate to, I mean who hasn't known a gossip or a Granny that rules the roost. Throw in a spunky somewhat bossy ghost and you have the makings of a good book that you can't put down. It is funny, with a little romance and a mystery that will make you go I didn't see that one coming. I highly recommend this book and series. Tonya Kappes has a way to make you feel right at home in Sleepy Hollow so pull up a chair and sit a spell while you get to know the people of Sleepy Hollow and help Emma Lee and Ruthie solve this mystery.

A Who Done It Classic Worth Reading

I have been a big fan of Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and was looking for a British author that would write just like them. Though Ngaio Marsh is somewhat like them she has her own flare and style but is enough like them that she didn't disappoint me in my love of British mysteries.

The Nursing Home Murder An Inspector Alleyn mystery is the first of Ngaio Marsh's books that I have read but it won't be the last. It is a good mystery that has many viable suspects, some interesting motives and a few surprises.

When Britain's Home Secretary collapses and is rushed to the hospital who knew he would never leave. Inspector Alleyn has to find who has done the Secretary in and how and why he met his demise. He has his work cut out for him when he finds several in the operating room had reasons for wanting the Secretaries death.

From a spurned lover, to anarchists,  to the Secretaries wife and sister and others who might want him dead, Marsh keeps you guessing right along with Inspector Alleyn on who is the murderer and in trying to solve this murder. I found at times the book was a little tedious and could have moved faster but overall it was good. I thought the ending was a little anticlimactic but it is still worth the read.

A Mystery Woven through History Makes For A Good Read

Second Street Station A Mary Handley Mystery by Lawrence H Levy is a  good mystery that weaves you through history while trying to solve who the murderer is. Mary Handley is a smart, strong willed, intelligent woman who wants to make it in a mans world as a detective. She gets her big chance when her friend's fiance Charles Goodrich is murdered and she is taken on the force to help solve the murder.
I love how the feud between Edison and Tesla is a big part of the plot. This book sucks you into the story and leaves you in shock when you find out who is the murderer.
I look forward to reading more of this series.
If you like a good mystery full of history, strong characters, a little romance and a lot of surprises you will want to read this one.

I was given this book by the publisher through library thing.com for my honest review

Charming Cozy Mystery

I read a charming and good cozy mystery. I know it is a series that has been out for awhile but this is the first time I have read it and I really enjoyed the book. It Takes A Witch by Heather Blake is a fun, charming mystery that leaves you wanting to read the next book in the series to find out what your friend Darcy will get into next. Yes you can relate to the characters in this book like they were friends you might have.

Darcy and her sister Harper move to the Enchanted Village after their father dies and their Aunt Ve tells them they are Wishcrafters, witches that can grant wishes. They move in with Aunt Ve and are starting to fit into this new place and powers when Alexander is found dead and Sylar their Aunt Ve's boyfriend is accused of murder. Darcy decides she has to help find out who really killed Alex and show that Sylar didn't do it because her Aunt is so sure he didn't and her Aunt is miserable. Will she find out the real reason for the murder and who did it before she gets hurt? Will she learn how to use her new found talent and stay within the rules? You will have to read the book to find out.

It Takes A Witch is not a dark ritualistic book but a very charming, mysterious book. It has some magic, some romance and a good twist and turn mystery. You are surprised by who the killer is and what lead up to the killing I like a book that keeps you guessing. I think you will enjoy this book and I plan on reading the rest of the series too.

Mystery, Family History, Ireland Add Up to 5 Stars in Buried In A Bog by Sheila Connolly

Buried in a Bog (County Cork, #1)

Buried In A Bog (A County Cork Mystery) by Sheila Connolly is a 5 star read that mixes mystery, intrigue and new beginnings into a fantastic book.

Maura Donovan lives in the United States with her Gran. She has been raised by her since her Dad died and her Mom left. Gran came to the US when Maura’s father was a lad from Ireland and  never really said much about her homeland so Maura was surprised when Gran made her promise to go to Leep, County Cork Ireland after she was gone. When Gran dies Maura takes what little she has and heads to Leep Ireland to keep her promise. Little did she know what she would be getting into. Maura is thrown into the middle of murder as well as the mystery of who her ancestors were all while trying to fit in to and find her place in not just Ireland but life itself. All this and trying not to be the killers next victim.

I loved this book and all the characters. I love that Maura is independent and strong. She has courage to strike out on her own to a place she knows nothing about. She doesn’t’ back down when she is the target for someone wanting to harm her for reasons unknown, in fact she digs in her heels and is more determined to stick it out.

I love how Sheila Connolly writes about Ireland in a way that you can picture it as if you are seeing it for the first time right along with Maura. She makes Ireland into being an important part of the mystery and plot.

This book has mystery, intrigue, family history, surprises you won’t see coming all tied up with a mystical beautiful land of Ireland, what could be better?

I love this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series. I highly recommend it.

Puppies, Mystery and a Ski Resort add up to a fun read in Puppies In Paradise by Kathi Daley

Good mystery, a little romance, a ski resort and puppies what could be better and these are what make up Puppies in Paradise A TJ Jensen  Paradise Lake Mystery by Kathi Daley.

This is the first TJ Jensen book I have read but even though it is the fifth book in the series it can be read as a stand alone without being lost on what is going on.

TJ's friend has been injured in a car accident so TJ is watching her friends dog and puppies while she recoups. Their is a big winter storm and the small town and resort are closed off. When a friend of the Jensen family is killed TJ vows to find out who the murderer is. With the help of Kyle, Hunter and Roy, the deputy, they work at finding Nolan's murderer but in so doing also find themselves solving an old mystery Nolan was working on too.

This is a fast paced enjoyable read. It has actually two mysteries as well as a surprise ending to both of them. I like the closeness of the family and friends. TJ is someone you could sit down to enjoy a cup of coffee with and feel like you were long lost friends. She is a strong woman who has a good sense of family and isn't afraid of hard work, along with a good head on her shoulders.

If you are looking for a good fun cozy to read don't miss this book or series. I will be reading the other four books in the series now too.
