Another 5 Star Cozy

Kickbacks, Kayaks and Kidnapping by Tonya Kappes once again takes you on a wild ride through twists and turns ending with a great cozy mystery. Her books make you want to sit right down and escape to their world.

Bryce is an Olympic Kayaker but also a spoiled person use to getting his way has come the Happy Trails for the Kayak competition Mae has organized but when he ends up murdered things end up not Normal for Normal Kentucky. Mae has things fun going with a contest but murder puts a damper on things. You no the saying any publicity is good but that isn't the case when a murder happens and people start canceling. Mae and the laundry ladies need to clean this mess up by finding the who what and why.

I love this series and it just keeps getting better and better. Mae is strong willed and smart while Dottie is quirky, loud and speaks her mind but together they work. I would love to spend a week or two with them drinking coffee and exploring.

This book has all the right stuff and keeps you guessing to the end. I love it and can't wait for the next one.

Exciting Mystery

The Case of the Beleaguered Bride the third book in the Nosy Parkers Mysteries by Debra E Marvin is an enjoyable fun cozy mystery I couldn't put down. It is a mixture of family, faith, friends with an intriguing mystery of murder wrapped around the past and politics of County Cork Ireland. It is the perfect setting for a cozy mystery and a great puzzle to figure out. I give it 5 stars.

Heather Munro has gone to County Cork for the wedding of friends Kat and Dan but with the murder of her Kath's ex-boyfriend things begin to fall apart at the seams. Heather is once again caught in the middle trying to help her friend figure out who is behind the murder and get things back on track but family secrets, politics and intrigue is making it unusually hard. Can Heather put all the pieces together before the threats she is getting puts her in danger too?

I love how this book sort of reminds me of classic mysteries. It has a kind, intelligent,  nosy and relatable main character in Heather. She reminds me of a grown up Nancy Drew. She has a good mind and a kind heart which adds to the story.  There is one person that from the start I knew she was not to be trusted and that was Trish. I didn't like her flippant flirty way and just knew she was trouble but she was full of surprises.

This book keeps you guessing from the start to the surprising end. It is written with great description of Cork and the surroundings where you can just picture journeying through it with Heather as she snoops around.  I highly recommend this book. If  you were a fan of Nancy Drew or Agatha Christie you will like this book. I highly recommend it.

Suspenseful and Intriguing

Dead Silence by Robin Caroll is a fast paced, unique, edge of your seat mystery  that I couldn't  put down. It is well written and captures you right from the beginning taking you on a roller coaster ride along with Elise as she tries to keep her son safe from the people who had her mother in law the Senator killed.

Elise is a court room sign language  interpreter who can read lips also since she has a deaf son. She reads the lips of a guard saying they are going to take care of Senator Lilliana York. When the Senator, who happens to be Elise's  Mother in law is killed Elise has to tell the FBI what she knows. When she tells them all she knows then she begins to get threats and warnings. Can she help the FBI figure out what happened before her and her son's life is in more danger? It gets really intense when Sawyer her son is taken.

This book is an interesting, unique, suspenseful  mystery that takes you on ride and keeps you guessing and wanting more. I like a good mystery that keeps you guessing and this one does. I also like that it includes faith though it is subtle. The book is a suspenseful mix of faith, love, family and a good puzzle with a surprise  ending. Very well written and well worth the read. I give it 4 1/2 stars. I would give it 5 but at times it was a little wordy but not enough to take away from the story.

Fun Fascinating Cozy Mystery

Tonya Kappes has done it again in the newest book in her Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery series. Each book in this series just gets better and better and this one is the best so far. I love how she brings you along and you can feel like you could walk right in to town, sit down and be friends with all of them. If you just want to escape and relax then jump right in and read this book you won't be disappointed.

Bernie once again gets caught up in a murder investigation. She is trying to deal with changes in her life and body. Some of the funniest parts of the book is when Bernie is talking about going through menopause and I just love how it is weaved into a part of the mystery solving. When Bernie finds Simon's body after the break in at the post office she immediately starts putting pieces together and snooping. Can she figure out who has done Simon in and help her friend and yoga teacher Peaches figure out if she was involved or not? Bernie sure is going to try to.

Bernie is an intelligent, quick thinking and caring person who just can't help but get involved in snooping, it's just who she is. Iris and the Front Porch Ladies are there to help too. I could just imagine sitting and having coffee with them all. The small town setting along with all the characters added to the mystery equals a fun, laugh out loud, page turning cozy mystery you just can't put down.

All the characters seem to be growing in each book. They are evolving and that makes each book unique. This book has all the right ingredients, a good puzzling mystery, great characters, a little bit of romance, several suspects and a surprise ending. I highly recommend this book and the series.

Fun Fantastic Read

Tonya Kappes books are so fun and a perfect way to spend a day reading. She always makes you laugh  while you ride along trying to figure out whodunit. Tents, Trails and Turmoil is a fantastic, fun, roller coaster ride to the end with great characters, plot and surprise ending. I loved it.

When Mae and Dottie discover a body in the camp grounds dumpster they have to kick snooping into high gear so their campground can open.  Hank tries to keep Mae out of the investigation but snooping is her thing. I just love the Laundry Book Club ladies and they are on it when it comes to snooping and gossiping. Dottie just cracks me up with her my way or the highway attitude. Hank is a straight forward guy but knows when he is beat when it comes to keeping Mae from snooping. They are the perfect match. I love the little town of Normal KY and could just imagine going and visiting there. It is just the perfect setting for the perfect cozy mystery.

If you love camping, hiking, a great mystery, with fantastic characters, set in a beautiful town with a mystery that keeps you wondering and guessing to the end then you must read this one.

Another Great Cozy

I love  A Camper and Criminals Cozy Mystery Series from Tonya Kappes. It is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. Sunsets Sabbatical and Scandal is book 10 in the series but you can read it as a stand alone book but really all of the books in the series are great.

Tonya Kappes books always make you feel like you have escaped into a fun place  where there are friendly unique characters, small southern town charm and interesting mysteries to solve.  Sunsets, Sabbatical and Scandal is no exception.

As always Mae West finds herself right in the middle of trouble. When the Bookclub ladies and Mae find their friend Trudy murdered they waste no time calling together the Laundry Ladies to start snooping and brainstorming to solve her murder. I like how there is also another mystery intertwined when they find out that someone is hacking and stealing some of Normal's residents money. Mae is determined to help Hank, her boyfriend who just so happens to be a detective, solve this murder even when he tells her to stay out of it. Can Mae and the ladies figure it out without getting into too much danger or trouble?

Mae is a determined, hard working, and smart but she tends to get into some pretty sticky situations. I love all the gossipy eccentric characters that make up the nucleus of Normal KY. I was glad to see that Hank and Mae are moving their romance along too. His support when Mae goes back to her hometown and has to face her past was heart warming. I cheered Mae on when she stood up to the pompous Jami who always caused her trouble in school. One of my favorite lines was when Jami was taunting Mae like she did when in school and Mae came back with "I'm old enough now to know I don't have to take this anymore" Boy howdy I was thinking go ahead give her a good slap but now that wouldn't be lady like. All the people of Normal KY in this book are special and could be someone you would sit down and share a cup of coffee with.

I really enjoyed this book. It is the perfect mix of mystery, friends, family and southern charm while keeping you guessing about the solution to the mystery. I give this one  5 stars and looking forward to the next one.

Cozy Mysteries To Try

I have been trying to catch up on posting. Today I thought I would post the reviews for the last three cozy mysteries I have read. Each one was well worth the read.

First is
Down In Flames A Webb's Glass Shop Mystery Book 6 by Cheryl Hollon.
Down in Flames by Cheryl Hollon sparks another good mystery with characters that are intriquing and can melt your heart. The way she uses down to earth people, flaws and all, and weaves them into the intricate pattern of the whole mystery is wonderful. Some of my favorite characters are Jacob and the twin sisters Rachel and Faith. They just add that special element to the story.  All of the people involved in the story bring a family like quality to the mystery and makes it special. If you like a good mystery, with fun loving characters, A unique setting and unexpected twists and turns then you will enjoy this book.

Jacob is a witness to a hit and run which throws him into shock complicated by his autism. Savannah has to help the police in finding out what Jacob knows and finding who hit and killed Nicole before that person comes after her and Jacob.  As she investigates she finds that maybe they didn't know Nicole as well as they thought. Is her secret life what got her killed?  Savannah wants to know but could her snooping be detrimental to her health too?  You will want to read the book to find out.

I enjoyed this book. It was a fast paced, intriquing read with elements of surprise to keep you reading. I think as you read it you are easily able to relate to all the characters and feel like you know them. I like a book that has characters that might be someone you know. If there was a down side it might be that it was a little wordy in a couple of places but not bad. I would of liked to have a little more complexity to the mystery but it was still good.

I would recommend this book and series if you like a good cozy mystery.

I received this book for my honest opinion and review.

Next one is
Clammed Up (A Maine Clambake Mystery Book 1) by Barbara Ross

This is a good read. What could be better than a clambake, day on a island and a boat ride except when there is a murder. This is a good mystery full of twists and turns as well as great characters and an interesting setting in Maine.

Julia Snowden comes home to save the family business but a murder on her families island puts that at risk. Can she finds out who the murderer is before she loses everything?

Just when I thought I had it figured out another wrench was thrown into the works, which is always good when you have to wait to the end of the book to find out the who, what and why.  I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The last cozy is

The Inspector and Mrs. Jeffries A Mrs Jeffries Mystery Book 1 by Emily Brightwell

A fun, fast paced cozy mystery that reminds me a lot of Agatha Christies Miss Marple series.  It has a lot suspects to choose from, good characters and twists to keep you reading.

I just love Mrs Jeffries. She is a smart, kind and caring person. The Inspector is absent minded and bumbling but good hearted. Mrs Jeffries steers him in the right direction to solve the mystery with the help of all the other employees of the inspector Witherspoon.

If you enjoy a good mystery, with great characters and many suspects to choose from as well as a puzzle with so many possibilities then you will enjoy this book

Warm Charming Cozy Mystery

Freshly Ground Murder A Killer Coffee Mystery by Tonya Kappes is one of those books that makes you want to go to Honey Springs sit down at the Bee Hive and enjoy a cup  of Christmas Harvest COFFEE while sharing  gossip with the Honey Springs residents. This is a warm, charming yet mysterious book that keeps you engaged in the mystery until the end.

It's Christmas time and all is wonderful at the Bee Hive and Honey Springs. Roxy is getting into the spirit of Christmas but when Otis is murdered she finds herself smack dab in the middle trying to find out what happened and why. Secrets are uncovered and suspects are many. Can Roxy Bloom figure out who killed Otis and why without getting into danger herself?

I enjoyed this book with the Christmas theme, the irresistible characters, the setting of small town as well as an intriguing puzzle mixed with secrets and many suspects. Roxy is one that you could just see being best friends with. She is smart, strong, intuitive and caring, all which make her a good investigator, even if Patrick, her Mother, Aunt Maxi and Spencer would rather she keep her nose out of it. She isn't deterred easily and I even had to laugh when Spencer marveled at how she got information even before or as fast as he could. Aunt Maxi is probably my favorite because she is outspoken, unique in her own way and opinionated. She can hold her own with anyone and doesn't care what others think, she is her own woman.

This book is like a good cup of coffee, it is strong, warm and good from the beginning right to the very last. If you like a good mystery mixed with wonderful characters, many secrets, several possible suspects, a little romance and a good ending then don't miss this book.

I give this book 5 stars and look forward to the next one.

I received this ebook for my honest opinion and review

Asking For Truffle is a scrumptious cozy mystery

Asking For Truffle A Southern Chocolate Shop Mystery by Dorothy St. James is a scrumptious cozy mystery that delivers an exceptional fun read.

Penn gets a strange letter saying she has won chocolate making lessons at a beach town on South Carolina. She never entered a contest so she asks her friend to check it out but when Skinny is murdered Penn's guilt for asking him for help propels her to go and find out who killed him? Will she find the answers she seeks or will she become a victim too? Who is trying to scam her and why and did it lead to Skinny's death?

This is a very fun, engaging read. Penn is a very cautious, inquisitive woman who doesn't trust easily. She has had her share of rejection and people trying to scam her out of an inheritance that she can't or doesn't want to touch. She isn't always a good judge of character so she tends to suspect everyone of trying to deceive her and want something from her. When she meets the women, Bertie and Mabel who have the Chocolate Box where the letter came from she seems to let her guard down some. Mabel who owns the shop is a person you just can't help loving. She finds a chip in Penn's wall and starts wheedling her way in. There are some characters that just make you dislike and distrust them like Jody and Mabel's children. Then there is the good looking smooth talking Cal that seems to be just a little to chummy and slick if you ask me. Harley seems to be a straight shooter but still you just aren't sure of him either.  The author makes the characters so complex that one minute you love them and the next you are suspecting them and not liking them at all. I always love a mystery that you have to keep reading and guessing to the end which is exactly what this one does. Penn is strong yet vulnerable, a woman who wants a family since her father didn't want her and her Mother abandoned her when she was born. She is likeable and you find yourself connecting easily with her and hoping she will find her happy ending when all is said and done. The ending is a little predictable but still the journey getting to the end has some twists and turns. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book.

All in all this is a delightful, interesting fun mystery with complex interesting characters and a good plot. The chocolate recipes included sound delectable too.

I received this book for my honest opinion and review.

Fun Interesting Unique Mystery

The Case of the Clobbered Cad A Nosy Parkers Mystery by Debra E Marvin is a wonderful, fun, exciting, mystery that keeps you guessing to the end. I really enjoyed reading this book and could not put it down.

Heather Munro finds herself in Scotland going to the University for her degree in Celtic History. She thinks she has gotten the ideal job when she lands the position in the Archives room of the University oh boy if only she knew. Her first night on the job is not what she expected. When she steps out of the room and comes back to find a body things get dangerous and interesting. Heather finds herself one of the suspects and has to find who really is the murderer and clear her name. Can she, like Nancy Drew, find the answers she seeks in the murder case with the help of her friends Mrs Kintyre and Tom Brown?

Heather is smart but tends to put herself in danger without thinking about it. She has good instincts and gumption but also a soft somewhat naive side that can lead her into trouble at times. I love her land lady Mrs Kintyre. She has spunk and is up to a good challenge. She reminds me a little of Miss Marple. I found myself liking several of the people but others sent my radar up while still others I just plain did not care for which included DI Payne. He was mean, ARROGANT and intimidating. I loved how Mrs Kintrye did not let him bully her or Heather and stood up to him. This book just had the right mix of unique and interesting characters.

If you like a good mystery which has all the right ingredients starting with a great setting, strong characters, a good plot with many turns and enough suspects to keep you guessing then this is the book for you. Right from the first page this book grabs you and takes you on a ride to the very end. If you like Nancy Drew or Agatha Christie mysteries you will enjoy this one too.
I highly recommend this book. 5 stars

Fascinating Historical Mystery

Benjamin Franklin and the Quaker Murders by John Harmon McElroy is a wonderful mixture of history and mystery.

I love history and a good mystery so with this book I have the best of both worlds. John Harmon McElroy weaves a story of murder into the fabric of post Revolutionary Philadelphia using Benjamin Franklin as the main investigator incognito who uses a Veteran of the War to do his leg work and investigating to prove Jacob Maul the father of John Maul who saved James life in the war, isn't the murderer of Mrs Coon or for that matter his wife either. James isn't so sure of Jacob's innocence but promises Benjamin Franklin that he would try to find the truth and help Jacob Maul.

I really found this book to be fascinating and the author goes into great detail to show the reader what post Revolutionary War America was like, the details of the place.and occupations  as well as the life of the people at that time. It really adds to the story and makes it another added dimension to the book as well.as to the mystery.

I also like the fact that the author has Benjamin Franklin using his analytical  mind when he and James discuss what information they are finding about the murders.  The puzzle has so many interesting pieces that combine into a surprising but perfect ending.

This book is an unique mystery set in a historical place with interesting situations and twists in the puzzle that makes you think and puzzle out the mystery right along with Benjamin Franklin and his investigator James. If you like a good mystery, enjoy historical settings and like a good.puzzle that takes you to the end to figure out then you will like this book.

I would recommend this book to history buffs and mystery lovers as well as anyone else who enjoys a good read.

I received this book for my honest opinion and review.

Good intense fun cozy mystery

By The Fright of the Silvery Moon A Ned McNeil Mystery by Blanche Day Manos is a wonderful hair-raising, toe-curling, suspenseful, fun mystery you won't want to miss.

Ned has inherited her Uncle Javin's family home, Granger Mansion, and is trying to fulfill his request that she find out and write the history of the house. Her research unearths a mystery that just may be putting her in danger and leads to murder. Can she figure out the mystery of the house, the old church and the legend that surrounds both without being hurt or anyone else for that matter?

This is a great mixture of suspense, mystery, faith, friends and tension. I love how Blanche Manos combines just enough scary situations to keep you on the edge of your seat yet not terrifying to the point of you not wanting to read more.

This is the second book in the series and this second book picks up where the first one left off. It shows how Ned is settling in and finds her niche in EdnaLee. I enjoy the camaraderie of Ned and her friends Pat and Jackie, as well as her love interest in Cade. Whenever Ned gets into trouble she can count on them to jump right in and help her.

This book grabs you from the very first paragraph with Ned's nightmare and keeps you riding along through all the adventure until the end. It has twists that you don't see coming and a puzzle within a puzzle. When I got to the end I was already looking forward to the next book to see what Ned gets into.

I have to say Ned is braver than I would be. One example of this is when she hears a noise in her basement and decides to get a flashlight and go check it out. All I could think is don't go down there you know how that always ends in scary movies, nothing good ever happens.

I loved this book and I don't want to give any of it away so lets just say if you like a good mystery  with strong characters, good friends, good puzzles to figure out, and a few hair-raising situations you need to read this book.

Blanche Day Manos has a way with words that pulls you into the story and takes you on a ride right along with the characters in the book. I couldn't put it down. I can not wait to read the next book in the series.

Another Hit with Oh, Fudge by Nancy Coco

Oh Fudge by Nancy Coco has all the right ingredients, a wonderful setting on historic Mackinac Island, great characters, an unique puzzle and just enough tension that stirs up into a fantastic mystery.

I say this every time but I think this is the best book in the Candy Coated Mystery series thus far. Allie who is a strong, smart, kind person seems to have a knack for landing right in the middle of trouble.
I just love how dedicated she is to the family business and making her Grandpa's legacy at the McMurphy a success. I have always wanted to go to Mackinac Island and this book takes me there with how the author paints the picture of the island and all its wonderful charm.
The camaraderie of Allie, Jenn, Frances, Mr Devaney and Sandy is another big part that makes this book and series work, they have become one big family and this book makes you feel as the reader a part of their group. Throw in the tension that Trent, Allies boyfriend , who I think doesn't appreciate Allie enough causes, of course I won't give it away but let's just say It just adds another dimension to the story. Oh  boy did Trent get my dander up with his shenanigans, I hope Allie moves on. I like Officer Rex better for her anyway.

Allie once again finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery but this time her cousin Torie is the most likely suspect when Allie finds her over the body in the Butterfly House. Allie had no idea Torie was even on the island and here she finds her holding the murder weapon over the body. How is Allie going to help prove Torie isn't the killer, even when Torie seems to have a grudge against her and stay out of danger herself? Who is the killer and why was Barbara, a person people disliked for many reasons, killed. Can Allie help solve this puzzle, run the McMurphy and Fudge shop, help with Frances and Mr Devaney's wedding and all while dealing with a spiteful cousin.

The whole puzzle behind this mystery takes some surprising turns and add to that the self centered bratty cousin Torie who seems resentful of Allie trying to help her and you are on an ever turning ride through the twists and unexpected turns to solve the murder. I like a good mystery that has unexpected problems and suspects turning up in it and this one has just that.

Nancy Coco has another wonderful hit with this book. You will get caught up in the mystery and won't want to put it down.

I loved this book and series. 5+ stars

Fun Southern Cozy in A Ghostly Secret 5 stars

A Ghostly Secret by Tonya Kappes is the best of the Ghostly Southern Mystseries series   so far.  Not often do you find a book or series that you just fall in love with but this book and series is just that. Everything about it from the setting in small town Sleepy Hollow KY to the interesting loveable characters, to the plot and story draws you in to the book and keeps you wanting more and more.
Emma Lee Raines the owner of the family funeral home just happens to be a Betweener which means she sees the ghosts of people who have been murdered and she helps them to crossover by finding out who killed them with the help of her boyfriend Sheriff Jack Henry.
This time she has to help a little girl who had been murdered 20 years ago. This cold case is proving to be more difficult than others she has helped and on top of that Granny has it in her head Emma Lee and Jack Henry are going to get married, what a fun distraction Granny is with all her shenanigans. Will Emma Lee be able to help little Betsy Lynn or will this be the first one she will fail to Help?
This cold case is an added element that makes this one different than the other books in the series and makes it unique and interesting.
Tonya Kappes shows the emotional side of losing someone with investigating this case and by showing how raw Emma Lee still is after the death of her sister,  as well as the prospect of change when Jack Henry gets a job offer from the State police. The story is an emotional roller coaster that keeps the reader riding along not wanting to put it down till the ride stops and when it does it leaves you ready for more.
I loved the book and look forward to what is next for Emma Lee and Jack Henry as well as the next adventure for Granny too. The book would just not be the same without Granny and her unique way of going through life.
If you enjoy a good Southern Cozy Mystery set in a small town, with loveable, interesting characters, a little romance and a good mystery to help solve then you must read this book. I won't give it away but the ending was a surprise and I can't wait for the next book.

Captivating Southern Mystery 5 Stars

A new favorite cozy.   Tonya Kappes has written another captivating cozy that you just want to savor and when you come to the end you wish there was more.

I love the small town with all it's southern charm. This book pulls you in and makes you want to sit a spell at the Bean Hive helping solve  mysteries with Roxie while taking in the surrounding community of Honey Springs.  I can just picture walking down the streets wandering through the shops of Honey Springs.

I was glad to see  that Patrick is startng to open up more to Roxie and actually helps her solve the murder of Fred Hill. I at first didn't think I was going to like her Mother but she grew on me. I love Aunt Maxi and her outspoken ways.

This is the second book in the series and I think each one gets better and better. The characters are growing, the mysteries are unique, and the twists keep you guessing. It is a mystery that you don't figure out fast on your own but one that keeps, you right along with Roxie puzzled till the end.

I can not find enough adjectives to describe how much I love this book. If you enjoy a cozy with a wonderful setting, good characters, a excellent mystery with a little romance then you won't want to miss this one. I can't wait for the next book.

Unique Twist on A Cozy Mystery

Edited Out A Mysterious DetectivenMystery by E J Copperman is an unique, wacky and different take on a mystery.

Rachel Goldman is a mystery writer whose main character seems to have come to life or at least he thinks he is her Duffy Madison from her books.  Duffy is trying to convince Rachel that he is her character and not a missing person Damien Mosley.  Funny thing is while they are hunting for Damien, Dusty gets picked up for questioning in the murder of Damien's  wife who was killed 5 years ago the same time Damien went missing and Duffy appeared. Confused? So is Rachel .

This is so different that it works. The characters are unique enough to make them interesting. I love the sarcastic things Rachel comes up with in dealing with Dusty.  Dusty is matter of fact, no nonsense smart and mysterious while Rachel is smart, creative and sarcastic. The interaction between them is what makes this unusual take on this mystery work.

The idea that Duffy is somehow "the" Duffy from Rachel's imagination  who meticulously investigates and hunts for missing persons is a puzzle. Then there is the problem of the body of an unknown man who died 5 years ago, the same time Damien went missing, and Damien's wife who has been murdered 5 years ago for another piece of the puzzle. Add the fact that Rachel thinks this Damien who went missing 5 years ago just when Duffy showed up is probably one and the same person and it all adds up to a multi-faceted, sometimes confusing, fun and uniquely quirky cozy mystery.

The only down side to this is that sometimes there is too much explaining going on that can be a bit boring. It moves slow at times but with so much going on there is no way around all the back story. It is a fun read and really a different fresh take on a cozy mystery.

This is the second book in this series but it can be read as a stand alone.  I wish now I had read the first book before this one but it isn't a necessity.

I received this book for my honest opinion and review

Edge of your seat book

This is an edge of your seat, suspenseful, can't put it down thriller. If you like Dan Brown's thrillers you will want to read this!

You will find that with Day of Secrets by Daryl Wood Gerber that she has once again written a new  captivating, gripping suspense novel, that keeps you riveted to your seat not wanting to miss a beat of Chase Day's story. I loved this book.

Chase Day's past comes and smacks him right in the face when he gets a call from his mother whom he thought had died many years ago. What he knew to be his story is proving to be just that a story and his past is falling apart and leading him into danger trying to find the truth.

I love everything about this book. The characters are well developed and complex, the plot is ever changing and tense as well as thrilling. You wonder right along with Chase who can be trusted, who is a friend and who isn't. I like a book that keeps you guessing and not predictable this is just that.

I found myself holding my breath at times when it seems Chase was going to be caught and other times I felt his emotions when he started unraveling what was his life until now.

This is such a good book I can't find enough words to describe how good it is. I hope that Daryl Wood Gerber will have many more thrillers to come, she has a niche for weaving an amazing, thrilling story that keeps you captivated and absorbed in the story from the beginning to the end.

I would in my own rating system give this book 5++ bookmarks it is so exceptional

Fun Fast Paced Cozy Mystery

Murderous Mayhem At Honeychurch Hall by Hannah Dennison is once again a fun, unique, quirky, fast paced cozy that has you laughing out loud at times and wondering what is coming next. From The peculiar quirky characters that are back for another adventure to the unusual circumstances they all find themselves in  to the  murders this is a book that you won't want to miss.

I enjoy this book because it takes you in and you find yourself getting caught up in the comings and goings of British life as well as the demographics of the Lord's and Lady's intermixed with the villagers of Little Dipperton

Each person in this book has their own peculiar personality and that just adds to the fun of the book. Kat is an antique appraiser who has a knack for getting right in the middle of everything that goes on at Honeychurch Hall. Her eccentric mother Iris and unconventional uncle Albert always add a quirky, unusual element to the plot with the stories they come up with to cover there mischievous exploits. I love these two they just make the book.

This story is  two fold, one is the mystery when the body of a women, who seems to be an ancestor of either the Honeychurch's or the Carew's, is found accidentally and then the murders of Dipperton residents complicate the upcoming Skirmish planned at Honeychurch Hall.  On top of all this Kat's mother Iris' missing manuscript pages need to be found and she is sure Muriel the postmistress has them.  She sends Albert to retrieve them only to get mixed up in the murder  of Muriel and becoming once again suspects in the investigation. On top of everything else someone has been stealing from the people of Little Dipperton, Lavinia thinks her husband Rupert Lord of Honeychurch is having an affair, Harry the son of Lavinia and Rupert along with his friend Max think they see a ghost in the churchyard and Kat thinks the ghost of Eleanor Honeychurch is trying to tell her something. It seems one thing after the other is happening and they all add up to a very interesting some what wacky but all together fascinating cozy mystery.

I love British mysteries and this one is a mix of Downton Abby meets Midsummer Murders. You have the Dowager  and her quirky family along with the village secrets and mysteries like in Midsomer Murders to be solved. Wow so much is happening and it is just plain fun and entertaining to read. I think this one was better than the last book in the series.

This is the fourth book in the series but it can be read as a standalone book too. I highly recommend this book it is one you will not want to miss.

If you would like to learn more about this book or series you should check out the authors website at

I would give, in my rating system, this book 4 1/2 Bookmarks

I received this book from the author for my honest opinion and review.

5 Stars for Southern Fried A Kenni Lowry Mystery by Tonya Kappes

Southern Fried (A Kenni Lowry Mystery Book 2) by [Kappes, Tonya]

Tonya Kappes has served up another helping of a charming cozy mystery with Southern Fried A Kenni Lowry Mystery.

I love this series with all it's southern charm, cast of strong characters, a ghost and a good always intriguing mystery.

Kenni Lowry the sheriff of Cottonwood has to find out who murdered Owen Godfrey and still try to hold her job as sheriff at the election coming up. She has so many suspects and motives it is a challenge for her and her every handsome, charming Deputy Finn. Can she solve the murder, catch the suspect, and keep her job?

This book is even better than the first one in the series. Kenni is growing and becoming more confident as the sheriff. She is smart, intuitive, can be emotional and brave. She also has her Poppa albeit as a ghost now,  to bounce her ideas off while trying to solve the crimes like they use to do when he was alive and the sheriff of Cottonwood.  With Finn as her deputy they are a dynamic pair  in solving crime.

Poppa is a hoot. I love how he watches out for Kenni but also pops in at times talking to Kenni when she is trying hard not to let anyone see her talking to the air. How would it look if the towns people saw her talking to no one and it sure wouldn't help her win the upcoming election.

Her Momma is a ball of fire when it comes to defending her daughter. She clouds up and rains all over anyone that talks bad about Kenni and when they are out to elect someone else she, well let's just say, you wouldn't want to cross her on her crusade to get Kenni re-elected even if she wishes her daughter wasn't sheriff she still has Kenni's back. She is the best. I love all her antics and fussing. She is like all of us as Mothers tend to be, Mother Bears, when she thinks someone is trying to hurt her daughter.

This mystery involves a dysfunctional family, an old cookbook, and rivalry that all ends up in a murder that is a puzzling mystery with surprises along the way. You have so many suspects, but not too many, twists, an election, a ghost, an overbearing mother hen, a good looking deputy, and  one excellent cozy mystery that you can't put down.

This mystery has all the right ingredients served up in a unique wonderful cozy mystery that you won't want to miss or put down.

I give it 5+ bookmarks

A Must Read New Book and Series Elementary She Read by Vicki Delany

Elementary, She Read: A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery by [Delany, Vicki]

Elementary She Read  A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery by Vicki Delany is a wonderful beginning to a new series. I totally enjoyed this book. As a big Sherlock Holmes fan I was skeptical whether or not I would like this book but was pleasantly surprised how good it was.

Gemma Doyle runs the Sherlock Book Shop and Emporium in West London on Cape Cod 222 Baker Street (don't you just love the address) and her friend Jayne is part owner with her in Mrs. Hudson's Tea Shop. When a woman hides what might be a priceless magazine with Sherlock's first story in it the fun begins. When Gemma finds it and talks Jayne into going with her to talk to the woman they find her dead and the mystery is on. Can Gemma find the killer and clear her name before she becomes a victim or be arrested by the cranky Det. Estrada or her ex boyfriend Det. Ryan Ashburton has to arrest her for the murder?

This is a fantastic, exceptional cozy mystery. Gemma is smart, intuitive, clever, very observant and a very motivated woman who sometimes gets in over her head because of all these characteristics. Jayne is level headed, smart, very honest and a good friend. Gemma is the Sherlock to Jaynes Dr Watson. The whole time I read this I kept thinking Gemma is so much like Sherlock and Jayne Dr. Watson and it made it fun. The mystery is unique and I love the way that the book keeps weaving in facts about Sherlock and the items that collectors look for as well as the obsession people have with all things Sherlock still. The murders, the mystery of the magazine, and just the shop itself makes up a very interesting book. There are so many ways this mystery could resolve and yet just when you think you have it figured out a wrench, so to speak, is thrown into the cog of your reasoning. I like a book that you can't figure out who the culprit is right off the bat, but that when it is ended you are surprised yet delighted at the outcome. This book is just that.

Besides the wonderful setting of Cape Cod,  the teashop and bookstore the characters combine to make this an excellent  book. I think Gemma could be someone I would love to hang out with. She is so observant, that sometimes it really gets her into trouble. She says in the book, "I'm so clever I chased  away the man who loved me, and my best friend's starting to find me exasperating to be around." Her character and all her quirkiness  is what really helps this to be an exceptional book. Jayne is just naive and honest enough that her and Gemma are opposites yet they make up a good combination and team. This just makes the book flow. What would a book be without a cantankerous policeman to be out to get Gemma and  Det. Estrada fits the bill. She is someone you love to hate and makes for a perfect nemesis for Gemma.  I can see them butt heads in the books to come. Det Ryan Ashburton the long lost love of Gemma adds an extra dimension to the mystery and book. I am hoping that they will pursue a new relationship in books to come too.

So in recap, you have a great mystery,  a unique awesome setting, romance, many suspects and a quirky reason for murder and a surprise ending. It adds up to a book you can't  put down.

This is going to be a new favorite series for me and I can not wait for the next one to come out. If you read only one new series this year I hope you read this book and series, I don't think you will be disappointed.
